A monk came into our space, in a brown habit.
"How come you have such a large space?" he said. "How come I don't know you? I know many of the other organisations who just have a booth - who are you?"
We are the ones who bring all of them together.
Yesterday, Sunday December 13 09, we were nineteen. Each day the composition of our hosting team is different, as new people enter to take the place of those who have had a life-changing experience by taking part in this meshworking experiment.
What doesn't change is our practice. Every morning at 9.30 we start in circle. "How do you feel?" Every evening at 6.30 pm we close the day with the same question. In between there are the conversations that run deep. Contacts with people from all over the world. All have their piece of the puzzle. Some are angry activists and Francisca asks them what they are committed to and they melt before her eyes. Others are concerned citizens, like the woman who just stands with me in silence, looking at the busy room with people around each of our ten tables, some in deep one to one exchange, others in lively group discussion. Some talk for five minutes, others for over an hour. The woman and I hold space for what is unfolding. Chris is at the back, helping a German man out with filling in the profile. He asks precise questions and we find out that we actually don't understand what one of the conditions mean. A Portuguese young woman is rating her countries progress in each of the areas and breakthrough conditions. Matthias speaks with people from Bangla Desh, while Wout-Jan talks to the Australian who has been working in our space for three days with Bolivians on a collective statement. At noon Peter gives his talk on the meshworking concept. The people in the neighbouring booths have all been asked if they are ok with this and every day they say 'yes, you do great work and we are interested to hear about this, too'. Morel and Anne-Marie sit with our new friends from Yourclimatetv.com. Later that afternoon Peter, Morel and I speak about meshworking in front of their camera so we will have something to go on our site, on Youtube ...
While in other parts of the city protesters are arrested by the dozen, Klimaforum is full of people who are ready to take positive action. Many light up when they see how their action fits into the whole. David from Kenya, Fred from France, Caroline from Belgium.
Today is a day of rest for me. Some time to be alone, get some supplies and a bit of fresh air. So let me go into Kopenhagen now ;))
